Android phones may soon send more precise location info to 911 dispatchers

The emergency call number 911 is a number that no one in the United States wants to call, however, when someone does, they usually expect that the emergency responders to be able to locate them as quickly as possible for any human.

 When you call 911 anytime ffrom now, your wireless carrier sends information about your location to the 911 dispatcher giving them a tip of where they would send help. Recently, Google has been testing a system of its own that will be equipped to handle this process having the potential to be considerably more accurate.

According to the reports reaching us from our sources, Google ran a series of tests of its system on Android phones in December and January for residents of Florida, Tennessee, and Texas. During the period when these tests were run, the system of Google turned out to be more accurate than that of the carriers’ 80 percent of the time.

One may tend to wonder by how much the Google system betters the emergency dispatchers which is a very good question, the answer to which is important. When a carrier sends data of your location to a dispatcher, it is more often than not within a radius of 522 feet from the point where you are actually. However, when the Google system was put through a trial, it was accurate within 121 feet. Furthermore, in addition to the higher level of accuracy, the system designed by Google was also able to send the information regarding location faster than carriers could.

This new technology is scheduled to be demonstrated at a conference later in the week, and in hopes that everything will work out well as planned, Google is planning on expanding it to each and every Android device at a certain point in 2018.

Regardless of the fact that this may not be as interesting as some of the features that are in store for Android P, it is an important feature which would serve the case of serious incidents better.

How to Use and Customize the Windows 10 Action Center

For a long time notifications in windows have been somewhat of a farce but Windows 10 has fixed this with Action Centre (a slide out pane that groups and displays notifications, and also provides access to quick actions like Wi-Fi, Quiet Hours, and Night Light.)
The Action Center is unambiguous to use, and also fairly customizable.

View Notifications in the Action Center

If you don’t dismiss a notification yourself, it will disappear automatically about 6 seconds later. When, you have new notifications, the Action Centre icon in the notification area turns white and displays a badge showing the amount of new notifications available (on the left) but if there are no new notifications, the icon will look empty and have no badge (on the right).


Click the icon (empty or looking white) to open the Action Center, a pane will slide out from the right edge of your display. The Action Center shows all your recent notifications, as grouped by app.


When you click a notification in the Action Center, the next thing that happens rests on the app that notified you. Most of the time, clicking a notification achieves something pertinent. For instance, clicking that OneDrive screenshot notification in the example above opens the OneDrive in folder in question and highlights the particular file you were notified about.
Sometimes, the results of clicking a notification are explained in the notification. In our illustration, clicking the notification from Razer Synapse about an available update goes ahead to start the update.

Clear Notifications from the Action Center
Click the clear button (the X) in the upper right corner of any notification to clear it. Note that when you clear a notification, there’s no way to retrieve it.


You can also clear all notifications for an app group by hovering your mouse over the name of the app, and then clicking the “Clear” button that appears there.


And finally, you can clear all notifications by clicking the “Clear All” text near the bottom right corner of the Action Center (just above the Quick Action buttons).


Customize Notifications

1. Press Windows + I on your keyboard to go to settings.

2. On the “System” settings page, switch to the “Notifications & Actions” tab.

3. In the right pane, scroll down to the “Notifications” section and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Below are the primary settings:

• Get notifications from apps and other senders: Turn this setting off to disable notifications entirely.
• Show notifications on the lock screen: Turn this off to prevent any notifications from showing up when your computer is locked.
• Show reminders and incoming VoIP calls on the lock screen: Turning off notifications on the lock screen still allows reminders and incoming calls to display. Turn this setting off to disable those types of notifications on the lock screen, as well.
• Hide notifications when I’m duplicating my screen: People often duplicate their display when giving presentations, and it can be annoying to have notifications appear. Turn this setting off to disable them during screen duplication.
• Show me the Windows welcome experience and Get tips, tricks, and suggestions: Turn these two settings off if you’re not interested in seeing tips, suggestions or ads.

If you scroll down, you’ll see notification settings for individual apps and other sources of notifications.

Note, you necessarily won’t see every app you have installed on the list. Some apps have their own notification settings which you’ll have to configure from within the app.

• Turn off the toggle next to any listed app to completely disable notifications for that app.

• Click the name of an app to open another page that lets you customize settings for that app in greater detail.

On the settings page for an app, you can disable notifications for the app, choose between showing banners or sounds played, prevent notifications from being added to the Action Center, and even control the number of notifications the app can show in the Action Center.
At the bottom of the page, you’ll find controls for app notifications regarding priority in the Action Center. It lets you control (to some degree) where in the Action Center list those notifications appear.


One more tip: If for some reason you just don’t like it at all, you can totally disable the Action Centre.
Customize Quick Action Buttons
At the bottom of the Action Center, there are four Quick Action buttons. By default, these include buttons for Quiet Hours, Network, Night Light and All Settings. Click a button to take the associated action (i.e turning Night Light on and off).
And if you click the “Expand” text right above those buttons…

…you’ll reveal all the available Quick Action buttons.

You can actually customize these Quick Action buttons. Although, you can’t add your own custom Quick Action buttons, you can control which buttons appear in the Action Center, and in what order.

• Press Windows+I to open the Settings app, and then click the “System” option.

• On the “System” settings page, switch to the “Notifications & Actions” tab.

• In the right pane, right at the top, you’ll see the “Quick Actions” section and all the available Quick Action buttons.

• Drag any of those buttons around to adjust the order in which they appear in the Action Center.

• If there are buttons you don’t want appearing in the Action Center, click the “Add or remove quick actions” link.

• Use the toggles on the resulting page to turn specific buttons on or off.

• And before you know it, you’ll have your Action Center looking just the way you want.

How to recover a phone damaged by water

  After my last edition of smartphone problems, i came up with this. Yes basically, no man is above mistake and off course no man knows what shall happen next. Going out with your phone on a good weather will never bring to your mind that there will be a climatic change. 

Suddenly, rain began and you were far away from shelter so you got socked up and it critically reaches your phone, do you know that every bit of water that enters into the phone might probably reach the inside of this device? Thus causing one or two damages in this phone board (where IC’s and other functionary devices are planted). 

Damages may not really be physical as you may think, but it’s destructive to still let them remain therein. And probably malfunctioning stats. But don’t worry, you can handle it with this article.

Causes

This is derived from the fact that the destructive to the cells of a mobile phone; and thus has caused damages to it IC (integrated circuit).

Solution(s)

When such thing happens, quickly pick up the set out of the watery environment, open it, remove the cells battery and the SIMCARD immediately. Clean the 2 components very well with dry clothes and dry them in the sun until the water dries off. Now they are so different ways you can recover this phone that fell into water back, which are included here;

 

Formula 1:   When you remove the set out of the water, with any good support stand the handset unity upright under a fan or a blowing dry air.

 

Formula 2:  Step 1; Loose the panel with precision crew driver

        Step 2; Gently brush the contact with a small quantity of methylated spirit.

        Step 3; Then dry it under the hot sun very well for about 30 minutes or you use a hot air blower for drying it.

 

Note:  Make sure to use a tooth brush with a solution of spirit to clean the phone contact unit. Fix back the phone and power on. It will come back to normal.

Instagram Stories Gets Photo and Video Replies

With over 250 million daily active users, Instagram Stories is growing by leaps and bounds, enough as well to defeat Snapchat, which it copied the feature from. And now with a new update, Instagram Stories will become more interactive. Instagram Stories now lets users reply to Stories with photos or videos. Moreover, you can apply filters, stickers, and other camera tools to the photos and videos sent in the form of a reply to Stories. Separately, Instagram has now acknowledged a bug was forcefully logging users out of their Instagram accounts, making it appear like an account deletion.

Talking about Instagram's new feature now available for Stories, users can choose any friend's Stories to watch and send photos and videos, in addition to sending text message replies to them. To reply with a photo or a video, you'll need to tap the new camera button while you're watching a friend's story.
  After taking your photo or video, you will be able to use any creative tools inside the camera, including face filters, stickers, and Rewind. Also, while replying you'll see a sticker of the Story that you can move around.

The friend at the other side, who posted the Instagram Story, will receive the photo or video reply in their direct messages where they can tap to view it and also see a thumbnail of the original Story, only visible to them. Just like the disappearing photos and videos in Direct, you will know when they have taken a screenshot or replayed your reply. The photo and video reply feature is rolling out with v10.29 on Android and v10.28 on iOS.

Coming to the unusual bug that has left many Instagram users confused, Instagram told The Verge that it is working to resolve it "as quickly as possible." Over the last 24 hours, an increasing number of Instagram users reported that they had been logged out of their accounts, and not able to sign back in. This made the users believe that their accounts have been deleted, while really they were not. The accounts affected included some personal and business related ones.

 While trying to sign in, Instagram asked for a security code to recover the accounts, but users report that they never received any. Some other users also reported that at the time of logging back in, they were shown a message saying that their accounts were disabled for violating Instagram's terms with an option to learn more about the issue.

Going Viral as OnePlus 5 Users Complain of 'Jelly Effect' When Scrolling, OnePlus Says It’s Aware of the Issue

OnePlus 5 mobile series was launched last week, and early adopters have been pointing out few issues with the camera and Wi-Fi. Now, some users report that the smartphone goes through some sort of a ‘jelly effect’ while scrolling the Web. OnePlus has also confirmed that it is aware of the issue.

Users report that while scrolling through webpages or their Twitter feed, content takes a while to catch up to the rest of the scrolled feed creating a sort of stretchy situation while scrolling. This might not be noticed at first, but many users have eventually confirmed this issue.

 You may not notice it when you scroll too fast, but scrolling slowly makes the text bunch up together and even stretch creating a jelly effect. Users are now internally calling it the ‘jelly scrolling effect’ on the OnePlus Community page, as part of the screen takes a longer while to refresh than the other.

XDA Developers was the first to report about it, and when they contacted OnePlus about it, the company confirmed that it is aware about the issue. However, there is no information on what is causing the issue or what the possible solution is.

Theories have been thrown around, and one user claims that he noticed that the Vertical Sync (VSYNC) was constantly being toggled on/off, and it could be the possible cause. Other users claim that the issue arises because the OnePlus 5 display has been mounted upside down. However, this could mostly be just a software bug that can be easily fixed with a software update. Knowing OnePlus, it will throw clarity when it’s sure of what is causing the issue.

Earlier, some users even reported of a Wi-Fi issue that doesn’t give the OnePlus 5 access to Internet even though the Wi-Fi seems to be connected. OnePlus promptly released a fix for the issue, along with other bugs and fixes a few days ago.

LG V30 Launch to Be Held Ahead of IFA 2017: Report

Last month, leaked LG V30 mockups suggested that the smartphone could possibly feature a secondary slide-out display and now the handset has been tipped to launch in September this year. The LG V30 will reportedly be unveiled right ahead of IFA 2017 event, which will kick off in Berlin on September 1.

According to a report by South Korean news website ETNews, for the first time for a handset in its V-Series, LG will be launching the V30 smartphone ahead of IFA 2017 event in Germany. Apart from this, LG is also planning to hold pre-order sales for V30 in South Korea, which will also be a first for any phone from V-Series, in an attempt to promote V30, as per the report.

LG has been tipped to hold pre-order sales for "about a week or two" via three South Korean mobile network providers after the launch event of V30. ETNews has suggested that the smartphone will be officially released in South Korea during September. Notably, the report has not mentioned whether there will be pre-order sales for other markets as well.

The South Korean news website says that LG V30 is expected to be priced by the company around "latter end of KRW 800,000 (roughly Rs. 45,200)." As per the report, LG V30 comes with a near bezel-less design just like the company's current flagship LG G6 and will feature a dual-camera setup at the back just like its predecessor LG V20. The smartphone has been suggested to house a 3200mAh battery as well. It has been tipped to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and come with IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

In audio department, LG V30 has been suggested to come with ESS' new Quad DAC, which should allow it to deliver impressive performance. Notably, the phone has been tipped to retain the 3.5mm audio jack as well. Finally, LG V30 is expected to be offered in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options.

To recall, LG has previously been tipped to use OLED display on LG V30 and "old-ish" mockups have suggested that the early designs of the smartphone included a slide-out secondary display as well.
As these are just leaks, we would advise you to take this information with a pinch of salt on the side and wait for the official information from the company.

South Korea plans to build the largest test site for self-driving cars in the world

 
So far self driving cars have been making the craze. We are now so lazy that we want to be driven about with our hands in our pocket. It is not like I myself I’m the most hardworking. Left to me, I wouldn’t mind playing PES on a very busy expressway in my car, just me no driver! Of course I’m an advocate for self driving cars although such cars are largely under restrictions with a lot of legislations globally forbidding self driving cars on major roads. This has intensified the need for more acute tests to perfect the self driving car technology. 

South Korea much to my relish is championing the tests for self driving cars massively. The government of south is building a site dedicated to self driving cars with an extensive size of 88 acres. This would climb up to be the biggest testing centre for self driving cars on the whole world. From reports reaching us, companies like Samsung. Hyundai who have been lurching for self driving cars would use this site to test have self-driving cars.

The facility from the architectural arrangements on ground would boast 360,000 square meters well enhanced with expressways and bus-only lanes. About $9.7 million is set to be soaked in this project.

Facebook will employ another 3,000 moderators following video killings

 
Across the last month, the world was rocked with the bastardly violence orchestrated and broadcasted on Facebook. We saw killings in live videos that racked the peace of the whole world, such massive dissemination of violence was rattling. And now Facebook is taking notable steps in combating unsettling repetitions.

Going by announcements coming from Mark Zuckerberg, he reveals that in response to those high profile violence we saw on Facebook, Facebook would be rolling an extensive employment program that will see 3,000 people come on board across the next year to actively contribute in reviewing flagged reports as well as videos.

“If we’re going to build a safe community, we need to respond quickly,” Zuckerberg writes. “We’re working to make these videos easier to report so we can take the right action sooner — whether that’s responding quickly when someone needs help or taking a post down.”

Back in April, we saw how a man in the US (Cleveland precisely) had broadcasted a video of a killing spree with the video managing to stay on Facebook for a long stretch of time much to the criticism of the giant social media platform. Then again was the murder of a child in Thailand which also managed to stay a complete day on Facebook. This was disturbing.

And now in due response Zuckerberg writes that Facebook will be aiming to avoid any such ugly incidences by bringing on another 3,000 people even up to 4,500 people who would have their hands working on the “community operations team.”

 The new team to be brought on “to review the millions of reports we get every week, and improve the process for doing it quickly,” Zuckerberg writes. Additionally Zuckerberg also promised that Facebook will make a needed alteration to its flagging procedures to introduce an improved convenience in submitting reports by users as well as for moderators to quickly reach out to law enforcement agents.

Apple iPhone sales on a slight decline in the first quarter of 2017

 
Truth is Apple has been molesting the world for a while now. The frenzy that follows every iPhone model every year is crazy. It is no longer news that some Apple fanatics go the distance of selling body organs comfortably to afford Apple products. Thus the financial reports of Apple are of interest to us. At least we deserve to know how well we, the Apple rotary club, have been enriching Tim Cook and his executive caucus.

Talking about the financial result for the first quarter of 2017, this time the financial reports have not been all that glossy. Not bad though but showing a little decline when put against iPhone sales on an annual basis. It is like not Apple is sliding down the hill, not at least as there is the brighter side to the reports that Mac as well as the number for other services rendered by Apple were on a high, lifting the cumulative revenue to $52.9 billion.

Across the last three months however, the number of iPhones sold remains humongous. An intimidating number of 50.8 million have been sold. Although this shows a little decline put against the 51.2 million of the first quarter of 2016. Well this little decline is quite reasonable if you view it from the perspective that a lot of people are being reluctant to buy new iPhones as they wait patiently for what Apple would be revealing in its10th anniversary which will be commemorated later this year. The other dark side to the story was that sales on iPad were a little down, dropping to 8.9 million which is quite a decline from the 10.25 million units sold for the first three months of last year.

However there is still some outlet of sunshine in the reports which is in the increase in the sales of Mac products. The company had recorded success selling more 4% finishing the first quarter of the year with 4.2 million units. Other Apple categories cutting across Apple TV and Apple Watch) had leapt heartily by 31%, with Services business springing up by double-digit growth.

Spotify bringing official app coming to Apple Watch

 
Spotify at present doesn’t really possess an official app for the Apple Watch, many of us would gave noticed that, this was quite a step back for Spotify. Well that is about to change. Popular app developer Andrew Chang is partnering with Spotify Watch to create an official Spotify app for Apple watch.

Some time ago Chang made the news when he initially created a third party app Spotify app. He called it “Spotty”. But Spotify at first took slight irriatation at Andrew Chang’s Spotty and reached out to Chang that the name was too close to that “Spotify”. Chang had to change the name to “Snowy”. But after examining Chang’s works, Spotify was impressed and called out to Chang this time not to scold him but partner him to create the company’s official app.

Talks between Spotify and Chang extended past four weeks but Chang had on Reddit thrilled fans of the app with the announcement.

“I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be working closely with Spotify to bring Snowy to the Apple Watch as part of an official Spotify iOS app… I can’t wait to take things to the next level with the expertise and tools available at Spotify.”

We can’t for now however nail a timeframe to when we will be expecting this app officially on Apple Watch but measuring from assurances by Chang “while [he] can’t give any estimates as to when it’ll be available… a Spotify Apple Watch companion app is in the pipleline.” Well, we can’t wait.

Have you noticed Gmail can now stream video attachments

 
 At the start of March, it came to our notice that Gmail had commenced support for attachments ranging up to 50MB capacity. This was extremely relieving as the previous upper limit was really restraining. Well Gmail had lot juicy more in the cupboard waiting for us.

Coming out in a matter of a week or two, every Gmail users would gain the capacity to stream video attachments.

What does this mean: you no longer have to download a video attachment before you watch it.
How it works now is well different: the moment the video gets to you, you will see video attachments displaying a thumbnail from the clip.

 So by the activity of double clicking on the attachment, the video attachment will begin streaming inside a video player; this is not very different from that deployed by YouTube.
