Man who strangled 3yr old stepsister sentenced to 20 years in prison

A western Ohio man has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for strangling his 3-year-old stepsister. Brian Scales, who turned 22 on Sunday, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, aggravated murder and child endangering in the death of Tristan Carlton in February.

Ambode hails Gowon’s achievements, national prayer initiative

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has hailed the achievements of  a former Military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, commending him for his numerous programmes aimed at cementing the unity of the country after the civil war.

Amobode said this on Friday while receiving Gowon and the executive members of ‘Nigeria Prays’, an initiative of the ex-head of state to pray for the national.

But they swear it's not a stunt and that when Soso confirmed Skiibii's death to me, they genuinely thought he was dead. Boko Haram: NSA, Service chiefs visit Yobe

The train of the National Security Adviser, (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno and the Service Chiefs in company with the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase on Saturday moved to Yobe State, another hotbed of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The NSA with his entourage who paid a courtesy call on Governor Ibrahim Gaidam at the Government House in Damaturu solicited the cooperation of the civilian society which according to him is very key in the end to the insurgency.

DPO dies in Bauchi

A Superintendent of Police, with the Bauchi State Police Command, Andy Audu, died on Friday, the command has said.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Haruna Mohammed, made available to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, indicated that the deceased, who was the Divisional Police Officer of Kirfi Division, died after a brief illness.

He added that his body had been deposited at the Mortuary for postmortem.

Texas Judge sentences man to get married or face jail time

An East Texas couple says their choice to marry when they wanted to was taken away by a criminal court judge. In July, a Smith County judge sentenced Josten Bundy to get married to his 19-year-old girlfriend as part of his probation, which also included writing Bible verses and getting counseling.

The court case stemmed from a February altercation between Bundy and the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Jaynes.

The Presidential Amnesty Office, on Friday, commenced the payment of outstanding stipends to former agitators in the Niger Delta and beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

The payment followed the approval granted by President Muhammadu Buhari for commencement of payment of the stipends and allowances to the beneficiaries.

Two ISIS-bound Nigerian men arrested in India (photo)

Two young Nigerian men, Imran Kabeer 24 and Sani Jamiliu 25, both from Kano state, were arrested today August 7th in India as they made their way allegedly to join the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq

According to reports, the young men were arrested at the India-Pakistan border as they made to scale a barbed wire fence. When interrogated by India's Border Security Force officials, Imran and Sani said they were on their way to Pakistan and then to Iraq to join ISIS but when searched, they had no valid travel documents to enter Pakistan but it was found that they had entered India on August 6th.

Eight Boko Haram members renounce membership of sect

Eight members of the terror group, Boko Haram, have denounced their membership of the sect, in a town around Mussa in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State,  the Chairman of the youth vigilance group in the town, Apagu Istifanus, told journalists on Friday.

According to him, the eight claimed they are tired of killing innocent persons.

Istifanus, who spoke with journalists on the telephone, said the eight were arrested in Mussa and after interrogations, they confessed their membership of the sect and stated their readiness to renounce their membership and rejoin their families.

Six dead in latest India train accident

A  train crushed six people, including three children, to death in eastern India Thursday in the 
second accident this week to hit the nation’s crumbling rail network, a police officer said. 


The train ran over the pedestrians as they were crossing the tracks at a village in West Bengal, about 350 kilometres (220 miles) north of the state capital Kolkata.

The Ibadan field office of the Department of Petroleum Resources, which controls Oyo and Osun states, has sealed about 100 petrol filling stations across the two states in a weeklong exercise aimed at penalising marketers who sell petrol above the official pump price of N87 per litre.

Apart from selling above the regulated price, the management of the affected filling stations were also accused of diversion of petroleum products, tampering with meters and other sharp practices.

5 children died after unattended SUV they were in rolled into a pond

Five children drowned after an SUV they were traveling in plunged into a pond near a temple in Bihar, East India yesterday Monday August 3rd. Of the deceased, three are girls and two boys, aged between eight and twelve. The heart-breaking incident took place at Brahmpur village in western Bihar’s Buxur district.

According to the police, the victims’ family members had gone to a nearby temple to offer prayers to Hindu deity Shiva on the first Monday of the holy Hindu month of Shravan.

A reliable source has confirmed to BBAfanclub that Big Brother Africa 2015 has been called off.
News about the cancellation of the show first trickled in from Ghana after the Manager of MultiChoice Ghana, Anne Sackey, told Razz newspaper that they (MultiChoice Ghana) have received notice from M-Net that this year's edition of Big Brother Africa will not be happening.

She explained that M-Net did not give them any reasons as to why the show won't be televised this year, but she personally thinks it's due to sponsorship constraints.

Death toll rises as Myanmar faces flood emergency

 RESCUE workers in Myanmar are racing to help tens of thousands of people facing severe floods, as the death toll climbed to at least 46, officials have said.


The country’s Relief and Resettlement Director Daw Phyu told Al Jazeera that at least 217,000 people have been affected in the country, after monsoon rains triggered flash floods and landslides, destroying thousands of houses, farmland, bridges and roads.

He also said that four people remain missing since the floods began.
Authorities have declared the four worst hit areas in central and western Myanmar “national disaster-affected regions”.

Worker dies after bee attack at California construction site

A worker died Monday after being stung by bees that swarmed a Southern California construction site after a contractor grading a parking lot struck an underground hive, a fire chief said.
Chaos broke out as the bees swarmed, workers said. Some workers panicked and bolted, while at least two men rolled on the ground covering their faces with their hands.
A third man swatted at the bees with a vest.
"There were bees all over them. Hundreds of them," Tomace Marquez told the Press-Enterprise
Three men were stung and one died after an allergic reaction, Riverside Battalion Chief Tony Perna said.
