It is possible to score two screamers in two games and still have an average tournament? If so, Lionel Messi has done exactly that.

He was largely anonymous in the 2-1 win over Bosnia right up until he beat three men to lash in off the post for his first World Cup goal in eight years, and then the whole Argentina team were on snooze mode until his fantastic stoppage-time strike saw off Iran and sealed qualification.

Average form of a goal per game? Most people would take that..
